Privacy Policy

Summary
- MoodPals reads health data from Apple Health only with your permission, and never writes to it.
- We use your data only to run MoodPals for you. We never sell it, never use it for advertising, and never share Apple Health data with advertisers or data brokers.
- People in your circle see only the moods you choose to share, never your health data or diary.
- You can start without an account, and you can ask us to delete your data at any time.
Who we are
MoodPals ("MoodPals", "we", "us") makes the MoodPals app for iPhone and Apple Watch and this website. If you have any question about this policy or your data, email hello@moodpals.com.
Information we collect

We do not use third-party advertising, ad tracking or cross-app tracking, and this website does not use advertising or analytics cookies.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
MoodPals reads Apple Health data only after you grant permission, and you can change that at any time in the iPhone Settings app (Health → Data Access & Devices → MoodPals). Health data is used only to provide MoodPals' wellness features to you. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with third parties except the service providers listed below that store or process it on our behalf to run the app. MoodPals does not write data to Apple Health.
My Circle and sharing
Sharing is always your choice. Nobody can find you by searching; people can only connect with you through an invite code you share, and only after you approve them. When you share a mood, only the mood (for example "Calm") goes to the groups you pick, and it disappears after 24 hours. Your circle never sees your heart rate, HRV, sleep, stress score readings or diary. You can mute, hide your moods from or remove anyone at any time; removed people immediately lose access to what you shared. Little Signals and reactions are emoji only. You can choose whether notifications show names and moods on your lock screen.
AI features
When you use Ask MoodPal, AI reflections or spiritual readings, the message you write and relevant context (such as your current mood or recent stress level) is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. We use it only to answer you. Please don't include information you don't want processed this way. AI responses can be wrong and are not medical advice.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run MoodPals. They process data only on our instructions:
- Supabase: database, authentication, file storage and server functions. Your data is protected by per-user access rules.
- Google (Gemini API): generating AI responses, as described above.
- Apple: Apple Health, App Store payments, push notifications and Apple Watch connectivity.
- RevenueCat: managing MoodPals Plus subscriptions, using your MoodPals user ID (no name or email).
- Expo: delivering push notifications for My Circle.
- Google Fonts: loading the fonts on this website, which shares your IP address with Google.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users, and in connection with a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your data.
How long we keep data
We keep your data while you use MoodPals. Shared moods expire from your circle after 24 hours. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and its data from our active systems within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records by law (for example, purchase records). Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.
Your choices and rights
- Health access: turn Apple Health permissions on or off in iPhone Settings.
- Sharing: stop sharing, leave groups or remove friends in My Circle at any time.
- Notifications: manage them in the app or in iPhone Settings.
- Access, correction and deletion: email hello@moodpals.com from the address on your account (or include your guest ID shown in the app) and we'll export, correct or delete your data. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you may have additional rights, including to object to processing or to complain to your data protection authority. We do not sell or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored with access controls so that each account can only read its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you if required by law.
Children
MoodPals is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact hello@moodpals.com and we'll delete it.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
